Follow Your Own Rhythm: 5 ways my life has changed since finding myself…

Being stuck in a rut can suck (sorry with the rhymes, it’s Dr. Suess week in my preschool, so that’s all that’s going in my head).

But truth?

Not knowing who you are or what you want to do with your life is scary. Not knowing what you’re passionate about, or constantly feeling like you’re missing out and disconnected is not fun at all.

This was my life for 6 years as I was trying to juggle new Mama hood, getting my Masters in education, working full time, and being a pastor’s wife. I seriously don’t know how I survived these years…I was super busy getting up early, coming home late-and I mean like 9:30-10:00 late most days… Then, about a year ago something snapped in me.

I was done being tired. I was done being busy. I was done feeling overwhelmed and never feeling like the “me” I remember before the kids and before creating a busy life.

But, because all the business and confusion was a norm for so long, I became obsessed about personal growth to figure out who the heck I am and what I want to do with my life. I wasn’t willing to settle just yet.

In 2019, when I was 32, it happened! I had an awakening. I found MYSELF! All of the puzzle pieces came together.

I was committed and willing to find my true identity. It’s work sister. It won’t come easy, you’ll have hard mountains to climb, fast rivers to swim through and valley’s to explore before you get there. Just don’t stop. Don’t stop working on yourself for yourself! Because once you do, your life will change…Here are some ways my life changed:

1. My perspective on life:
If you truly want to change for the better and you want to find yourself again, you need to stop looking to society for the world for approval. We have been brainwashed in the way we should look at beauty.
Once I was able to separate myself from the societal imprisonment and the pressure to fit in, I was able to concentrate on living my life for me & my family.

2. My passion and purpose:
Once I stopped comparing myself to the other Mom’s on Instagram, Pinterest, ect. I found myself giving myself a lot more grace. I don’t have to be an entrepreneur with a clean house and perfect kids. I can be a mom who is present in the moment, a mom who knows without a doubt that I did my best to be the best mom. I focused on that, and other passions such as serving my church, making a happy home became more evident.

3. Self-love, self-confidence, self-acceptance, and self-trust:
I totally get the self-care movement and I think it’s important that you can’t fill from an empty cup. However, it’s so important on what you fill your cup up with. If you believe that the universe and stars will help, great! I found my true love, confidence, acceptance and trust in Christ. Once I started reading the Word, I started to understand who I was within His Kingdom, and let me tell you, it’s a wonderful place to rest.

4. Having more discipline and self-control to cut out healthy habits:
Being more spiritually aligned, I became more aware of all the negative habits. I felt more in touch with my body and the need to treat it like the temple it is. So I stopped drinking wine, which I didn’t realize how detrimental it was becoming to my health… I stopped eating sugar and started a plant based diet. I also started meditating, and working out every day. It’s amazing the changes that I was able to stick with once I was able to be more spiritual aligned and following who I truly was becoming!

5. I am more self-aware and more calm:
Believe it or not, I used to be a pretty angry person in general. I had a short temper and got frustrated really easily. I was very impatient and reactive (hello hormones!) and couldn’t really control my emotions. I actually talked about this in front of a group of ladies at church and shared my whole testimony on how I was able to let go of anger.
Now, because I understand my true self, I am so much more connected to everything around me and this helps me remain calm and collected even when annoying things happen!

Now, because I found my true self, everything around me started to shift. Everything fell into place. My life started to make sense. Taking this journey is one of the most rewarding, liberating, and powerful things you can do.

If you would like to find your true self. It takes work, discipline, and focus. But, once you do, your life will be changed forever!
